11+ registration, explained

When do you register for the 11+?

In Year 5, before the test in September or October of Year 6. Each area sets its own window. For September 2027 entry, Bexley's ran through March 2026, Buckinghamshire's from 1 May to 2 June, Kent's from 1 June to 1 July and the Sutton SET's from 1 May to 31 July 2026.

Are the 11+ dates for September 2028 entry out yet?

Mostly not. On 25 September 2026 only Wirral and the Slough Consortium had published dates for tests in autumn 2027. Wirral registration runs from 1 to 31 May 2027. Slough registration opens in May 2027, with the exact dates still to come. We add each area's dates as soon as the council, school or test provider publishes them.

Is registering for the test the same as applying for a school?

No. Registering only lets your child sit the test. You still apply for a place on your home council's application form, even if you are waiting for results.

When is the deadline to apply for a secondary school place?

For September 2027 entry most councils close applications on 31 October 2026. Kent's closing date is 2 November 2026. Offers are sent on National Offer Day, 1 March 2027.

What if we missed the registration deadline?

Contact the council or school straight away. Kent asks families who missed its deadline to email its admissions team, Buckinghamshire asks them to contact admissions, and Wirral only accepts late registrations from families who have moved to Wirral since the closing date.

Which 11+ test days clashed for September 2027 entry?

On the published dates, these tests shared a day in autumn 2026: Bucks Transfer Test and Bexley Selection Test (8 to 10 September); Kent Test and Bucks Transfer Test (10 September); Kent Test and Bexley Selection Test (10 September); Kent Test and Birmingham grammar schools (12 September); Kent Test and Gloucestershire grammar schools (12 September); Birmingham grammar schools and Gloucestershire grammar schools (12 September); Medway Test and Sutton SET (15 September); Medway Test and Wirral grammar schools (15 September); Sutton SET and Wirral grammar schools (15 September); Medway Test and Queen Elizabeth's School (16 September). Several areas test children at their own primary school on one day and everyone else on another, so a clash may not affect your child. Pick your areas above to see any clash for your own list.
