Wirral 11+ results: what they mean and what to do next
Wirral Council sends grammar assessment results on 21 October 2026. Meeting the grammar school standard does not guarantee a place: an oversubscribed school uses its other criteria. If your child does not meet the standard, a grammar school preference is withdrawn. Apply by 31 October 2026, listing schools in your real order of preference.

What your result means
Met the standard
Your child can be considered for the four grammar schools. A school with more applicants than places then uses its other admissions criteria.
Did not meet the standard
Wirral Council withdraws a grammar school preference. List the other schools you want, in order, so the preferences that count are the ones you choose.
St Anselm's and Upton Hall
These schools run their own admissions. Check their own pages and letters, not the council's assessment result.
Before 31 October
- Check the result letter: which child, which standard, and any next steps it names.
- Read the oversubscription criteria of each school you are considering.
- List schools in your true order of preference. Ranking one first does not lower your chances at the others.
- Include at least one school your child is likely to be offered.
- Submit the application and keep the confirmation.
Appeals come later
An appeal is against a refused school place, after offers on 1 March 2027. The council's timetable gives the end of March 2027 for submitting an appeal, with hearings from May to July. It is not a re-mark of the assessment.
Younger child in Year 4 or Year 5? For September 2028 entry, registration runs from 1 to 31 May 2027 and results are due on 21 October 2027.
