Questions people ask
When is National Offer Day 2027?
Monday 1 March 2027 for secondary schools. GOV.UK says councils send secondary offers on 1 March, or the next working day if it falls on a weekend or bank holiday.
What time do secondary school offers come out?
It depends on your council. Kent and Medway email after 4pm, Birmingham expects emails by 4pm, Kingston sends them from 5pm, and Bexley, Redbridge and Sutton send them in the evening.
Should I accept an offer that is not my first choice?
Yes, for now. Kent, Buckinghamshire and Birmingham all advise accepting: it does not affect your place on a waiting list or an appeal, and it means your child has a school in September.
How long do I have to appeal?
At least 20 school days from the decision letter, by law. Many councils set one date: for September 2027 it is 13 April 2027 in Kent, Medway, Bexley, Birmingham, Essex and Southend-on-Sea.
Can I join a waiting list if I have accepted a place?
Yes. GOV.UK says you can add your child to a waiting list even after a place at another school is offered, and lists stay open for at least the first term.
When is primary National Offer Day 2027?
Primary offers come on 16 April, or the next working day. In 2027 that is Friday 16 April.

How we work this out
What it does
Pick your council to see when your offer arrives and every deadline after it.
Year 7 offers for September 2027 in 16 councils: Kent, Medway, Buckinghamshire, Slough, Bexley, Redbridge, Barnet, Kingston upon Thames, Sutton, Birmingham, Trafford, Wirral, Gloucestershire, Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Reading, and the national rules for any other council in England.
Method
- GOV.UK sets secondary offers on 1 March, or the next working day. In 2027 that is Monday 1 March.
- For your council we show how the offer arrives, the date to accept or decline, how waiting lists work, the appeal deadline and any later round of offers, each from the council's own page or published scheme, read on 12 October 2026.
- Where a council has not published a step, we show the national rule instead: at least 20 school days to appeal, and waiting lists open for at least the first term of Year 7.
