Answers

  1. A The greatest number is 8520. The smallest is 2058 because zero cannot be first. Subtract: 8520 minus 2058 = 6462.
  2. A Total sales income is 24 × £1.20 = £28.80. Profit is income minus buying cost: £28.80 minus £18 = £10.80.
  3. C 18:38 plus 1 hour 47 minutes is 20:25. Add the 15-minute interval: the finish is 20:40.
  4. A Order the lengths: 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 19. With seven values, the fourth is the middle one. The median is 12 cm.
  5. B Subtract 2,800 first: 7,206 − 2,800 = 4,406. Then subtract 49: 4,406 − 50 + 1 = 4,357.
  6. D Two adults cost 2 × £7 = £14. Three children cost 3 × £4 = £12. Total cost = £14 + £12 = £26.
  7. E A rectangle has two sides of each length. Add 13 + 7 = 20. Double this: 2 × 20 = 40 cm.
  8. C Group convenient pairs: 28 + 42 = 70 and 35 + 19 = 54. 70 + 54 = 124.
  9. D Multiples of both 6 and 8 are multiples of 24. 48 divides exactly by 6 and 8, but not by 9. Check all three conditions.
  10. C Each of the 3 breads can pair with 4 fillings, giving 3 × 4 = 12 combinations. Remove the one unavailable combination: 12 minus 1 = 11.
  11. C Rising 9°C from minus 4°C gives 5°C. Falling 6°C from 5°C gives minus 1°C.
  12. A Monday ends with 85 + 48 minus 57 = 76 pens. Tuesday’s 39 sales leave 76 minus 39 = 37 pens.

How we work this out

What it does

Pick maths or verbal reasoning, a topic and a level. Print a sheet of up to 12 questions with the answers on a separate page.

93 maths and 72 verbal reasoning questions in the GL style, at three levels: warm-up, core and stretch.

Method

  1. Every question is original and was written for our Kent and Bucks courses, then solved again blind by a separate solver before it went on this page.
  2. A mixed sheet takes the topics in turn, so each topic appears before any repeats.
  3. Print from the button, or choose Save as PDF in your browser's print window. The answers page prints on its own sheet.
