The King Edward VI and partner schools test decides entry to 8 grammar schools. Check the entry year first: dates and even the provider can change.

What your child sits
- Two papers of about 60 minutes each, including instructions and examples.
- Separately timed sections: English comprehension, verbal reasoning, maths, non-verbal and spatial reasoning.
- Multiple choice on a separate answer sheet. No writing task.
- No calculators or watches, and closed sections cannot be revisited.
How it is scored
- Age-standardised and weighted: English and verbal 50%, non-verbal 25%, maths 25%.
- For 2027 entry the qualifying score is 205, with a priority score of 224 for the King Edward VI grammar schools.
- Offer cut-offs differ by school and category. One test is shared by 19 partnership schools.
