What spellings come up in the 11+?

11+ English papers often ask children to spot a spelling mistake. The Year 5 and 6 word list holds many of the words they use.

100, set by the national curriculum for England.

How should my child learn spellings?

Test, then practise only the ones they got wrong: look, say, cover, write, check. Come back to them a few days later.

How we work this out

What it does

The 100 Year 5 and 6 words every child is expected to spell, with a free typed test. Read the clue, type the word, see if it is right.

The 100 words in the statutory Year 5 and 6 spelling list of the national curriculum in England, in five sets of 20.

Method

  1. The words are the Department for Education's official list.
  2. The clues and sentences are ours, checked by a second reviewer.
  3. A spelling is right when every letter matches; capital letters do not count.
