How do 11+ appeals work?
An appeal challenges a refused school place. It is not another test. Start with the refusal letter and the school's appeal instructions.
Know your case
A qualified child refused for oversubscription argues why this school. A child who did not qualify also needs academic evidence. After a local review, such as Bucks Selection Review, the panel first checks the review was fair.
Evidence checklist
- The refusal letter, the school's policy and every deadline.
- A short timeline of application, result and any review.
- School reports and attainment evidence.
- Dated records for any event you mention.
- Copies of everything you send.
Read the evidence precisely
Worked example A conclusion that goes too far
A school note says: 'Arun completed all five classroom tasks independently in May.' Which conclusion is supported? A He will win an appeal. B He was fastest. C He worked without help on those tasks. D He met every admission rule. E His test score is wrong.
- Find the observation: independent work on five tasks.
- Reject claims about speed, admissions or scores.
Answer: C. It restates the evidence exactly.
The trap: A turns one observation into a prediction.
