Stage 1 (the SET): one hour of multiple choice with five options, on an answer sheet. The top 450 boys sit Stage 2: written English and maths papers.
- SET: four sections of about 15 minutes each, English comprehension, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
- Stage 2: an hour of English and an hour of maths.
