What it covers
The ten schools in the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE): the score of the last selective place offered on National Offer Day (1 March), by priority area, for 2021 to 2025 entry, as printed on CSSE's historical guidance sheets.

Method
- We copy each figure from CSSE's guidance sheets: the 2025-entry sheet (offers made on 1 March 2025), the 2024-entry sheet and the combined 2019 to 2024 sheets. Each figure keeps its school, priority area and year.
- If you give a score, we subtract each year's last place from it. Only the 2025-entry sheet says its figures are rounded to the nearest whole number, so only that year can say 'on the line' for a score within half a point.
- Figures from different priority areas are never mixed. Colchester County High School for Girls brought in a priority area for 2025 entry, so its single earlier figure is shown as its own series.
- The scenario for the next year is the middle of the last three years, plus or minus the biggest of: the spread of those three years, how far this method missed for that school before, and half a point.
Uncertainty and limits
- A last place depends on how many children applied, their scores and preferences, and the number of places. It moves from year to year: tested on 26 past years across all the schools, the middle-of-three-years method missed by 3.5 points on average and up to 10, and the next year fell inside the previous range only half the time.
- The scenario band is not a prediction interval and has no stated chance of being right.
- CSSE excludes places given on appeal or under special consideration, and says an equal score does not guarantee a place.
- St Thomas More High School offered no selective places on National Offer Day for 2023 or 2024 entry, so those years have no figure.

The answer shows how a score compares with the last place offered in past years, for the school and area you choose. It is not next year's cut-off, a pass mark or your child's chance of a place. Each school's admission policy, and your priority area, decide.

Questions people ask
What was the KEGS cut-off score for 2025?
The last place at King Edward VI Grammar School on 1 March 2025 went at 355 inside its priority area and 372 outside it. From 2021 to 2025 the outside figure moved between 366 and 376.
What is the CSSE pass mark?
CSSE says no offer is made to a child scoring under 303. Some schools filled their places inside the priority area at or near 303; others, like Westcliff High School for Boys outside its priority area (351 in 2025), needed far more.
Why did the Colchester County High School for Girls cut-off change in 2025?
The school introduced a priority area for 2025 entry. Its last places went at 322 inside and 333 outside, where before there was one figure (330 for 2024 entry). The two are different categories, so they are not compared as a trend.
Does Colchester Royal Grammar School have a priority area?
Not in these figures: CSSE prints one figure for CRGS, which was 343 for 2025 entry.
When are new cut-off scores published?
CSSE publishes a historical guidance sheet each autumn for the last round of offers. The 2025-entry figures were published in October 2025.
