Schools that share a test need one registration. Each school may still want its own form, and every school goes on your council's application.

Same publisher is not the same test. GL, Quest and FSCE write tests for many areas. Only schools on the same test route share one registration and one result.

What it covers

The test route, school-specific second stages and supplementary-form rule for 89 English grammar schools, for September 2027 entry and the 2028 dates already published, plus the national council application.

Method

  1. Each school you add is placed on its test route: for example every Kent grammar school on the Kent Test, and Nonsuch, Wallington Girls, Wilson's, Wallington County and Sutton Grammar on the Sutton SET.
  2. Schools on the same route share one registration. Schools on different routes need one registration each, even when the same company writes both tests.
  3. Each school's own form rule comes from its admissions policy or council booklet. A second stage run for some schools on a route is listed only for those schools.
  4. One council application covers every school; GOV.UK gives 31 October.

Uncertainty and limits

  • Where the pages we read do not state a school's form rule, the checklist says to check the school's policy rather than guessing.
  • Registration status (open, closed, not yet published) is worked out from the published window against today's date in the UK.
  • Some councils publish their own application day; it is named beside the national date.

What the answer means

The answer counts the separate tests to register for, the school forms, and the one council application. It cannot tell you whether your child will qualify or be offered a place, and it does not register or apply for you.

Questions people ask

Do I need to register separately for Kent and Bexley?

Yes. The Kent Test and the Bexley Selection Test are different tests with their own registrations and dates, so a shortlist with schools in both areas needs two registrations.

Does one Sutton SET registration cover all five schools?

Yes, the Selective Eligibility Test is shared by Nonsuch, Wallington Girls, Wilson's, Wallington County and Sutton Grammar. Their second stages differ: Nonsuch and Wallington Girls held theirs on 26 September 2026, the other three on 3 October 2026.

Is sitting the 11+ the same as applying for a place?

No. The test only shows whether your child qualifies. You apply by naming each school on your home council's secondary application, by 31 October.

If two areas both use GL Assessment, is it the same test?

No. The same company can write different tests for different areas, each with its own registration and its own results. Only schools on the same test route share them.
