How the range is worked out

  1. Each question has a difficulty level from our Kent question bank. A middle-level question is one an average Kent Test child gets right about two times in three.
  2. In each section we find the ability that best explains how many your child got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
  3. Kent Test scores are standardised: the children who sit it average 100 in each section, with most between 85 and 115, on a scale from 69 to 141. We place your child's ability on that scale.
  4. The total adds the three sections. In 2025 a child needed 332 or more in total and at least 108 in each section to be assessed suitable for grammar school.
  5. With five questions a section the range is wide. A full timed mock narrows it a lot.

Questions

Is this an official Kent Test paper?

No. The questions are our own, written to the Kent Test's format and pace, and each one was solved independently by two solvers. Kent County Council publishes a familiarisation booklet.

How accurate is the score?

It is a range, because 15 questions cannot pin down one score. About two times in three your child's level sits inside it. Kent mock 1, a full timed rehearsal, is free and narrows it a lot.

How long does it take?

15 minutes: English 4, maths 5 and reasoning 6. The real test is two papers of about an hour each, plus a writing task that is not marked.

Do we need an account?

No. The marks and the likely scores show straight away. A free account adds the topics to fix first, a two-week plan and every answer explained, and keeps them.

How many children pass the Kent Test?

In 2025, 5,035 of the 11,248 Kent children tested (45%) were assessed suitable for grammar school, by score or by headteacher assessment.
